While a doctoral student, Dr. Martinez became interested in the research of the Annenberg Institute for School Reform.
A branch of Brown University in Rhode Island, the Annenberg Institute for School Reform is a research organization that focuses efforts on education policy improvement and reform efforts. The institute focuses chiefly on schools in urban environments and promotes the concept of smart education systems.
Smart education systems provide children with high quality education through a coordinated system that incorporates all areas of a child’s life. These areas include the school, community, and the child’s home. Partnerships amongst organizations in different sectors are a core component of a successful smart education system, as are systems to measure performance and accountability across the organizations that are part of a child’s life.
